BIOGRAPHY Home Room To be Friends The Peaceful Warrior
Kaluyu’ti (pronounce Gal-Lou-Hugh-N-Dee) means “Clouds Passing Over” in the Onyo’ta a:ka language. It is a name adopted from his maternal grandfather: Alfred Jacoby Nicholas. Kaluyu’ti’s English name is Edward Ninham and he is a member of the Onyo’ta a:ka First Nation of the Thames just outside London, Ontario, Canada. Brought up in the urban community of London, Kaluyu’ti was not exposed to very much of his traditional culture but is taken on the learning process as an ongoing project. It is his hope to pass on teachings, language and the characteristics associated with his aboriginal culture: honesty, truth, courage, bravery, humility, respect, & wisdom. In all we do as a human race, nothing is accomplished by one man alone – we must be willing to share ideas in order to learn from each other and work towards a mutual understanding of each others concerns. Kaluyu’ti graduated from H. B. Secondary School in London. He went on to take first-year Behavioural Science, first-year Child Care at Fanshawe College and Micocomputer Business Applications at The Academy of Learning. He has volunteered as a member of the Board of Directors at N’Amerind Friendship Centre, was a member of Wiich Ke Yig (London chapter of C.A.S.N.P). and was one of the co-ordinators for the “Listen For The Drums” First Nations Art Exhibition in London as well as other community organizations such as H.B. Beal, R.E. Crouch Resource Centre, Boys and Girls Club of Cananda, Solidarity Day festivities, etc.. Kaluyu’ti did a poetry reading at the Forest City Gallery and at the “Listen For The Drums” Exhibition. There are still community events Kaluyu’ti is involved in such as guest hosting Smoke Signals Aboriginal Radio Show on CHRW 94.7 FM, as well as creating and maintaining a website for The Gathering of The Good Minds. And now, there is this site where you can enjoy Kaluyu'ti's poetry, keep informed about entertainment around London, find resources for your needs, and possibly support current issues.
